Jones-Hamilton Co. announces the launch of BeefUp™, an acidifier designed to eliminate ammonia and reduce bacteria in manure packs and high traffic areas in confined cattle operations.
“Jones Hamilton has over 30 years of research-backed manure management experience,” said Michael Putnam, Vice President, Jones-Hamilton Agricultural Division. “We’re excited to answer the call from the beef industry to find new and innovative ways to manage manure and hoof health.”
Designed to improve the environments in which cattle are raised, BeefUp can improve hoof health as it works to minimize secondary infections and insults that occur during lameness, while also decreasing respiratory insults for improved performance.
The development of BeefUp stemmed from a discussion on hoof health between a poultry and beef veterinarian. The resulting trial by Iowa State University at a custom feed yard in Nevada, Iowa, showed instant promise.
“The test farm saw immediate improvement in the incidence and severity of heel problems,” commented Putnam. “It was a clear indication it was time for Jones-Hamilton to expand our reach and bring the potential of pH manipulation and ammonia management to the cattle industry.”
BeefUp is available in 50-pound bags and 2,000-pound super sacks.
